FAQ

Stump Grinding FAQ

What’s included in your stump grinding service?

We grind the stump down below grade so it can be covered with soil and grass. We’ll confirm the grind depth you want, set up safely, and leave the area neat. If you want, we can rake back the grindings or haul chips away for an additional fee.

How much does stump grinding cost?

Pricing depends on stump diameter, species/hardness, location access, number of stumps, and how deep you want it ground. The fastest way to get an accurate quote is to text or email a couple photos (plus a rough size), or schedule a quick on-site estimate.

How deep can you grind a stump?

Most residential jobs are ground 4–8 inches below the surrounding soil, which is ideal for leveling and re-seeding. Need deeper for a patio, walkway, or replanting? Tell us your plan and we’ll recommend a depth that makes sense.

Do you remove the roots too?

Stump grinding removes the stump and surface root flare; it doesn’t pull out every root like excavation. Most roots are left to naturally decay underground. If you have a specific area that needs additional root grinding, we can often address it.

Will stump grinding damage my yard, driveway, or utilities?

We take care to minimize impact with proper setup and controlled grinding. We’ll review access, nearby structures, and where utilities may run. You’re responsible for having underground utilities marked before we grind; once marked, we work around them safely.

What do I do with the wood chips after grinding?

You can use the grindings as mulch, spread them in wooded areas, or have us haul them away. Many customers choose to remove some chips and backfill with topsoil for the best results when planting grass or preparing the area for landscaping.
